"I was very pleased to receive our letter of the 29th/july/1938, just to hand. May I congratulate you on our English? It is very rarely that I receive such a letter in perfect English, even from the teachers in S. Paulo, who are suppose to be the best. I think you are the best English teatcher in Brasil!

(...)

May I congratulate you once again on your splendid knowledge of my language. I liked de "knotty points", – a true English expression that only a person very intimate with my idiom would know. The schools in Uberaba is much more fortunate than it knows!

I should like to include an extract of your letter to be published in the new edition of my English Gynmasial Grammar, if youo would be so good as to give me yur permission.

I inclose you an extract of your letter which I am sendding to the printer:

"Many congratulations on your splendid work. It is the easiest way I have yet foud to become thorughly acquainted with Shakesplerare's tongue. Your grammar is the best I have seen up to today, – ka prodigy of accurate labour and didactic intelligence. All the intricacies of the English language are most clearly explained. There is not a single knotty point that has been forgotten. What a wealth of idiomatic explressions & what a variety of amusing anecdotes. Prof. Santino Goes de Matos, Reitor do Ginásio Brasil, Uberaba, Minas Gerais."

The honnor & pleasure of printing is!

Hoping your are in the best of health,

Ever yours sincerely,

H.C. Bethell"
